Condolence: Phil was a very good friend and good to work with. He hired me 15 years ago at Sachem and was my first boss. We worked together on several projects in Austin, Cleburne, Japan, and China over the years. Always enjoyed working with Phil. He was always kind and respectful to everyone. He will be greatly missed by many friends.

Condolence: My Condolences to Phil’s family. I have known Phil for over 30 years. Professionally, I watched Phil become a critical element of the evolution of SACHEM from a small volume producer of products to a large volume, global producer of products and services. Not long after construction of the Cleburne Plant, Phil gave me my first tour of that site. I remember Phil as a kind man, who would ask about your wife and children by name and discuss various interests that included gardening and traveling. Phil was very smart but he came across as a very down to earth person who never forgot where he came from. He also had a good sense of humor. I could go on and on because I considered Phil a friend. He fought a good fight. He will be missed.

Condolence: Phil was simply a great guy and will be sorely missed! He always made me feel welcome and treated me with respect – something he did with everyone. We worked together on many projects over the years, and though we did not always agree, we complemented each other in such a way as to come up with a better solution than either could alone. There is a kind of friendship you develop when you work together 8 hours a day in a hotel room in Tainan, Taiwan, that is hard to describe! I clearly remember when Phil met me in Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the train station several years ago – he had been in Asia for quite some time and said “we are going to eat steak – I haven’t had a good steak in a long time!” and so we did! On a more recent project, some of the words people we worked with have said are: “I feel fortunate to have gotten to meet/know Phil and have fond memories of all my interactions with him.” And “Phil was one of the good ones …” Thank you Phil – you will be missed.

Condolence: A little more than 28 years ago, I met Phil for the first time when I came to Southwestern Analytical Chemicals for a job interview. I owe Phil for my entire professional career. Phil put his faith in me at that time and then coached and mentored me to become the engineer I am today. Even on the first day of work, I already felt like I knew Phil and that he was my friend. He was always kind, supportive and knowledgeable. I could confide in Phil and trusted him completely. Even with years between visits with Phil, our friendship never faltered. I was thrilled to get to work directly with Phil again in the last few years. He always saw the bright side of things and helped keep my spirits up on many occasions. My favorite thing about Phil was his infectious laugh. Sometimes he laughed so hard I thought he was going to suffocate. Phil was an amazing man in many ways. I will miss my dear friend. I am blessed to have known him. I pray for comfort and healing for Linda, Jimmy, Chiemi and all of Phil’s family.

Condolence: I can’t fully express what an amazing man and great friend Phil was to so many people. He was always first to offer his support and personal resources without a second thought about how it might be challenge for himself. I have had the privilege of spending time in different cultures and circumstances with Phil and he always set the standard for respect and no prejudice. I am honored to have had Phil as both a coworker plus a dear friend and I already miss his sense of humor and infectious laugh. Over the past couple of years Mary and I have had the pleasure of spending a lot of quality time with Phil & Chiemi and we both feel very blessed and extremely grateful for that opportunity. He was a man who loved his family and friends and never shrank to the many challenges life through at him. May God bless and comfort Chiemi, Linda, & Jimmy in this time.
