Services for Quinton Oden, 86, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Keene Youth Chapel. Burial will follow in Keene Memorial Park. Pastor Don Gibson will officiate. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Quinton passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in Keene, Texas. He was born July 19, 1930 to Opal (Lamberson) and Emil Lawrence Oden.
Quinton married Bobbie Jo King on December 13, 1950 in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Quinton came to Keene in 1962 when he leased the old filling station on the corner of south college Drive and Hwy 67. That was the main entrance to Keene in those days; Old Betsy was just a dirt road. After a few years of building his loyal customer base at that location and after the construction of the Keene Shopping Center, Quinton moved his operations to the new service station on the corner of Old Betsy and Hillcrest Drive. His business continued to flourish with the able assistance of his dad. After a few years at that location, Quinton made a hard decision in 1969 to build his own station “far” from the heart of Keene and all the way down to the corner of 4th Street and Old Betsy! He was joined in partnership in the business with his son-in-law, Dennis Laursen in 1972. His faith in God permitted once again to build his loyal customer base. The business he started in 1962 is still in operation, known today as Hopp’s Automotive and Towing. It is Keene’s oldest continually operated business other than the schools and US Post Office.
Quinton and his wife Bobbie, demonstrated their love for God and their community by opening their home up to many students over the years giving them a place to stay while attending CTA or SWAU. Their love for Marsha Laursen, their only daughter, was never threatened by sharing the home environment with other children, but rather it reinforced their love for her.
Quinton’s hard earned money was put back into the community by employing many students in the academy and in college, teaching those work ethics. Julio Uribe is a prime example of the love the Odens shared with others.
Quinton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie Jo Oden; and brother, Vance Oden.
He is survived by his daughter, Marsha Laursen and husband, Dennis, of Keene; son, Julio Uribe of Keene; grandchildren, A.J. Laursen, and wife, Lacy, Melinda Laursen, and Julian Uribe; great-grandchildren, Faith, Lucas, and Kylar Laursen; brother, Harold Oden and wife, Betty, of Loveland, Colorado; Uncle Pete Lamberson and wife, Christine, of Fort Worth; Aunt Patsy Greenwood, also of Fort Worth; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.
