A Celebration of Life for Nancy Diane Davis, 56, of Cleburne, Texas will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Covenant Church at Union Hill, 1733 Conveyor Drive, Joshua, Texas 76058. The Rev. Rick Douglas will officiate.
Miss Davis passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Waco, Texas on December 22, 1960, the daughter of Joan (Brown) and Clay Johnson Davis.
Miss Davis graduated and earned her Masters degree from Baylor University.
In a statement posted by the Cleburne ISD, Miss Davis, a retired TEAM school teacher, was praised for being the a loving teacher who truly cared for her students.
An except from the CISD post states: "Davis served a total of 28 years in public education, retiring in 2012. She began her teaching career in 1984 with Calallen ISD and was employed as an English teacher and coach at Cleburne High School in 1989.
She joined the TEAM School staff as an English/language arts teacher in 1991, and was honored in 2012 as the campus Teacher of the Year. She was also a very involved member of the Cleburne community as reflected in her work as a board member and volunteer with Camp Fire USA and the Johnson County Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
During her years at TEAM School, Davis assisted in the organization of a Relay for Life team involving faculty and staff. Principal Georgann Storm announced Tuesday that the school would be renaming their Relay team in Davis’ memory.
“Nancy Davis was TEAM School,” Storm said. “Nancy taught her students a love for literature, respect for others, and an appreciation for life. Her students were her children, and she helped guide them to reach their greater potential. She was a formidable presence in the community, the first to volunteer for innumerable fundraisers, and a fierce, loyal friend. She was our very first English teacher, and she had a heart for at-risk kids. She leaves a legacy that inspires her fellow teachers and former students to live life to the fullest and never take a day for granted.”
“When the Fitnessgram was added to our PE curriculum, Nancy proposed that the one mile walk/run requirement for students model Relay for Life,” Storm said. “Students could raise money for cancer research and share the impact the disease had on their families on a memory wall we created to honor those who had passed, survivors or those who were battling cancer. It made the one mile exercise a more meaningful activity for our students and our staff, as we all participated. It also gave our students the opportunity for involvement in a community service activity.”
Miss Davis was preceded in death by her mother, Joan, in August of 2009 and her father, Clay, in November of 2016.
She is survived by her sister, Debra Alice Davis of Cleburne; brother, Glenn Clay Davis of McGregor, Texas; nieces, Tyler Tyrel Miller and Montana Joan Davis; nephew, Glenn Clay Davis, Jr., all of McGregor; three great nieces; two great nephews; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Church at Union Hill, Camp Fire USA or to Johnson County Relay For Life.
