James Floyd Houston passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on October 14, 2017.
James was born to Noble Eugene Houston and Mary Eva Warner Houston on May 22, 1943, in Ft. Worth, TX. He was known as a quiet, reserved, and responsible boy. James met his future wife, Judy Grimes, when he was 12 years old on his paper route. They both attended Wichita Baptist Church as teenagers and began dating in 1961. They were married at the same church a year later on July 13, 1962.
Before their wedding date, he began an apprenticeship with IBEW and became a Journeyman Electrician in 1967. He eventually co-founded Aero Electric with his good friend Todd Ledbetter in 1997. The name Aero Electric was partially inspired by James’ love of airplanes. In 1970, he earned his pilot’s license and later went on to own two airplanes that he cherished. He was a passionate man with many hobbies that he loved sharing with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He had a story for every fish he ever caught and every hunt he ever went on. He had two children, adopted five more, and opened his home to over 50 foster children over 30 years.
He will be remembered for his beautiful voice, his sense of humor, and his wild stories. He fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and the family would like to thank Alpha and Omega Hospice for the incredible care that they provided to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Jack Houston.
James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy; brother, Ira Eugene; sons, Robert (Tammy), James (Rhonda), Christopher (April), and Samuel Dion; daughters, Ronda Allison (David), Marla Henson (Nolan), and Rachel Houston; 22 grandchildren, Monieree, Marsha (Dan), Michael (Cindy), Marcie, Allie, Elisha (Capp), Natalie, Garrett, Megan, Rebekah, Matthew, Randi, Makayla, Jakob, Kylei (JJ), Ashley, Seth, Bryna, Brylie, James, Jacelyn and MeLia (Eric); and eight great-grandchildren, Wesley, Waylon, Madison, James, Daylon, Khloe, Alex, and Kylah. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and foster children.
