Obituary for Mary Frances Hardwick (Fulton)

Print
Mary Frances Fulton Hardwick, 91, of Keene, Texas, died October 20, 2018. A fourth-generation Texan, she was born in Dallas, Texas on August 30, 1927, to G. I. and Dorothy Cornett Fulton. She was a member of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Keene Church Chapel.
Frances loved the Lord and was a third-generation Seventh-day Adventist, baptized in her early teens in Dallas. Her first musical instrument was the violin, but her real musical talents lay in piano and organ. In the 1970s and 80s, she was the assistant organist for the Dallas First Seventh-day Adventist Church. Frances was an artist with needle and thread – from baby clothes to wedding gowns to award winning quilts.
She married Jack Hardwick in 1948, and they had celebrated their 65th anniversary by the time of his death in 2014.
Frances was a bookkeeper for several companies in the petroleum industry through the mid 1970s, when she joined the family company, Jack Hardwick & Associates, representing manufacturers of medical, surgical and respiratory equipment.
Ready to downsize their business, Jack and Frances moved to Keene in 2000. They were almost immediately active in civic affairs in Keene, with Jack serving on the Chamber of Commerce board, and both volunteering for the Chamber’s annual Business Expo and as docents at the Southwestern Adventist University’s Hopps Museum. Frances also volunteered at the church thrift store and was a member and past president of the Cleburne Quilt Guild.
In October, 2013, as Jack prepared to leave on his Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., Frances suffered a major stroke. It left her paralyzed on her right side, stealing her ability to walk, write, play the piano and quilt. Frances has been blessed to share a room in Town Hall Estates Nursing Home since 2013 with her dear friend, Rita Elsner.
Frances loved her daughters, Diana Buitron and her husband, Ben of Mesquite, Texas, Sharon Leach and her husband, Benjie, of Keene, and Deborah Hawkins of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dallas Deputy Chief of Police, Raymond Hawkins.
She adored her grandchildren, Lisa Murphy and husband, Earl, of Windsor, Colorado, Dena Kalman and husband, Robert of Garland, Texas, Amy Leach and husband, Matthew Lukens of Bozeman, Montana, and Benjamin Leach and wife, Jennifer of Walla Walla, Washington.
Frances was delighted by six great-grandchildren: Russell and Travis Murphy, Audrey and Lucy Leach, and Peter and Sylvie Lukens.
She is also survived by her close friend, Tami Perez and husband, Rene, of Keene; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hardwick of Midlothian, Texas; and by treasured nieces, nephews and cousins, most of who live in Texas.
Frances’ family is grateful to the kind and remarkable nursing staff and aides at Town Hall Estates and Mission Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her name to Grandview Area Food pantry, P.O. Box 1300, Grandview, TX 76050-1300.
