Obituary for Lilly Ewing (Yates)

Funeral services for Lilly Belle (Yates) Ewing, 74, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at First Christian Church of Cleburne with Pastor David Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lilly’s life.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Rosser Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Reinhold, Hunter Wilson, Garrett Wilson, Ewing Devaney, Pat Devaney and Tim Mulloy.
Lilly passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, in Burleson, TX at the age of 74.
Lilly was born to Brooksy Evelina (Moore) and George Willis Cecil Yates in Hillsboro, Texas on February 8, 1945. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1963.
Lilly earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Texas Christian University, and began her teaching career in Rio Vista, later teaching in Joshua and Cleburne public schools. After teaching for a number of years she earned a Masters degree in Education Counseling at Tarleton State University and served as a student counselor in Arlington, Frisco, and Terrell school districts prior to her retirement from public education.
Some of Lilly's friends and family members have described her as quick- witted, genuine, funny, open minded, clever, tender-hearted, sincere, smart, opinionated, stubborn, and easy to talk to.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her many close friends.
Lilly was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Willis and Tom Yates.
She is survived by her children, Shelly Wilson of Cleburne, Landra Blackwell of Louisville, Kentucky, and Traci Devaney and husband, Pat, of Cleburne; sisters, Marie Murphy and husband, Bill, of Dublin, Texas and Dorothy Jackson and husband, Bo, of Denton, Texas; brother, Cecil Yates, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Burleson, Texas; and nine grandchildren, Austin Reinhold, Landon Blackwell, Bradley Blackwell , Chelsea Wilson, Hunter Wilson, Garrett Wilson, Gracie Devaney, Vivien Devaney, and Ewing Devaney.
