It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Suzy Carroll Troberman announces her unexpected death due to an aortic dissection on November 19, 2021. Devoted grandmother, beloved mother, wife, sister and friend, Suzy will be missed beyond measure. A memorial service will be held on December 10, 2021 at Rosser Funeral Home located at 1664 West Henderson Street, Cleburne, Texas 76033 at 11:00am. The family will have a visitation beginning at 10:00am.

Suzy was born on April 26, 1952, to H.M. Carroll and LaNell Beene Carroll in the little town she loved, Cleburne, Texas. She grew up extremely close to her mother and two sisters, Pam and Lana and they remained the closest of friends throughout Suzy’s life. Many of her greatest stories and favorite memories include her summers spent water skiing on Lake Whitney. She often talked about her adventures at the Red Wood Lodge with her friends and she cherished the time she spent at the Kickapoo Cabin with her mom, Meredith, and many visitors over the years.

Suzy graduated from Cleburne High School in 1970. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from The University of North Texas where she enjoyed four exhilarating years during the unprecedented cultural changes that time period had to offer. She remembered those years as a time of social unrest, exciting change, incredible music, and she spoke fondly of the many friends she made along the journey.

After leaving her bell bottoms and braided hair behind at North Texas, Suzy went on to accept a teaching position at Randolph Elementary where she was adored by students with whom she made a lasting, lifetime impact. But Randolph Air Force Base provided her more than a just a job she loved… she met the love of her life, Rick Troberman, who was coaching high school football on the Base at that same time. They instantly fell in love and quickly decided to get married after just a few months when they shocked both of their families by running down to the local Catholic Church and making it official with no warning (and no guests).

Soon after their whirlwind romance and marriage, Rick and Suzy decided that raising a family was the number one priority and that having Suzy at home raising those children was the only way to do life. Rick left his job as a coach and began a career that enabled Suzy to do what she did best: love, nurture, and teach her own children. Their daughter Shelly was born in 1979 and their son Toby was born in 1983. Suzy and Rick’s marriage continued happily for 45 years as they watched Shelly and Toby grow and become a lawyer and an engineer, respectively. Never has a more dedicated mother ever existed nor has a woman ever been more adored by her own children.

After Shelly and Toby were grown, Suzy couldn’t wait to be a grandmother. She got more than she bargained for with seven grandchildren over the course of 10 years . Those grandkids have grown up adoring their “Nay Nay” and could sense how fully invested she was in each of them. She taught her kids and grandkids so many life lessons, chief among them empathy and unwavering dedication to family. All seven grandkids think she hung the moon.

Suzy truly lived her life in the service of other people. There were no limits to what she was willing to give or do to make other people's lives more enjoyable. She was selfless and never asked for anything in return. Her wants and needs were simple: she was built to help others and she spent a lifetime doing that for countless people.

Anyone who knew Suzy was aware that her desire to care for others went beyond humans. She never turned away a stray dog or cat and was always traveling with a dog in her lap. Suzy’s later years were spent on her ranch in Grandview where she was known to have over a dozen dogs at any given time (along with a menagerie of other animals), and they would follow her around the property. They knew exactly who it was that cared for them the most.

Suzy was preceded in death by her parents, father H.M. Carroll, mother LaNell Stepp, and stepfather Meredith Stepp. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rick Troberman of Grandview, Texas; daughter Shelly Troberman-Miller and husband Andrew of Austin, Texas and their children Mabry, Merek, Makane, and Malone; her son Toby Troberman and wife Alice of Austin, Texas and their children Dossett, Evans, and Leni Rose; her sisters Pam Watson and Lana Richeson of Cleburne, Texas and their husbands Bob Ed and Jimmy, respectively; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Humane Society of Johnson County. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at Rosser Funeral Home.
