Dr. Stuart Lemuel Nelson, 87, died at his home in Keene, TX, on August 18, 2016. He had lived in Keene since 1977. Stuart was born in Detroit, MI, on November 25, 1928, to Harry and Mabel Wilcox Nelson. Stuart graduated in 1951 from Union College in Lincoln, NE, and followed up by graduating from Loma Linda University in 1956.
Stuart was a family practice physician and Emergency Room doctor in Takoma Park, MD. In January 1977, Stuart moved to Keene, TX, and was the first Emergency Room Director at Huguley Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He married Lillie Katherine Smith Garner in Keene, TX, on September 9, 1979. Stuart was a family practice physician in Silver Spring Maryland, Keene and Alvarado, TX, for nearly 40 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillie Katherine; his sister, Barbara H. Barker; his children, Angie Garner Montoya, Jeffrey Nelson, Alisa Garner Hill, Greg Nelson, Todd Nelson, Marlon Nelson, Bob Nelson, Chris Garner, Lianne Nelson McConnell; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Keene SDA Church on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 4 pm.
