Obituary for Barry Vernon Goodgion

Barry Vernon Goodgion, 66, of Cleburne, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 after a 10 year battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
A memorial service will be held on 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Cleburne Bible Church in Cleburne, Texas with Dr. David denHartog officiating.
Barry was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Edgar and Mary (Cull) Goodgion. He was married for 44 years to his lifelong love, Jill (Garrett) Goodgion, and was the proud father of two children, Casey Goodgion and Amanda (Goodgion) Gilbreath.
Barry attended Coleman Elementary, Fulton Junior High, and Cleburne High School. After graduating from Cleburne High School, he attended Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. There he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy in 1973. Later, in 1990-91, he attended Colorado Christian University and earned a Masters Degree in Biblical Counseling.
Barry worked as a soil scientist with the USDA, compounding supervisor at Alcon Labs, and lab analyst at Sachem. He was a longtime member of Cleburne Bible Church, and served in various capacities. He enjoyed the great game of chess, archery, amateur radio (WB5THF/W5BVG), writing, hunting, golfing, and of course, his dogs.
Barry was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Orth Goodgion; mother, Mary Harris; and step-father, Bill Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Jill Goodgion of Cleburne; son, Casey Goodgion and wife Elysha, of Brooklyn, New York; daughter, Amanda Gilbreath and husband Craig of Burleson; and brother, Ed Goodgion and wife Nancy of Cleburne; grandchildren, Cassidi and Abigail Goodgion of Boulder, Colorado; Faith and Ashleigh Goodgion of Brooklyn, New York; and Caleb, Liam and Adaira Gilbreath of Burleson; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Johnson County A&M Club Scholarship Fund, Cleburne Bible Church Next Generation Now Fund, or charity of your choice.
