Great Cousin

Pete was a great cousin to me when we were growing up together as we were within two years of being the same age. Pete was the son of Lela Reid who was the cherished sister of my late mother Mammie Boyce Cannedy.   Pete and I would go to our Grandmother's small farm in Iowa Park and play in the pastures or chicken yard or fish for pearch in the irrigation ditch using a mesquite limb wth kite string, a safety pen and a grasshopper for bait. Pete could always run fast enough to catch them. Some times we would lay pennies on the railroad track to check them out after the train would run over them. This was a time when my Grandmother's children and grand children would gather on special weekends, often for a Sunday meal, where the children would play various games outside and the whole bunch might gather around the old upright piano to sing songs, usally rieligous selections sang to the acccompanyment of the old piano played by Grandma or "one of the boys."  These were the last days of no television and when computer laptops hadn't  even been envisioned..  It was a simpler time, but me and my brother and two sisters could have a great time playing outside with Pete and his brothers and sisters.  I miss those wonderful days, I will also miss Pete who was to me a great cousin. Rest in peace Pete. You deserve it.  Respectfully,  LLOYD CANNEDY
