Obituary for Santiago Chavez

A memorial service for Santiago Chavez, 79, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at The Heights Church with the Rev. Steve McCoy officiating.
Burial will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017at Rio Vista Cemetery.
Mr. Chavez passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his home. He was born in Sugar Land, Texas on December 21, 1937, to Pauline (Trevino) and Tony Chavez.
Santiago married Angela Ramirez on February 12, 1968 in Houston, Texas.
He served his country in the Army Reserves for six years and was a construction foreman. Santiago was a member of La Fuente and The Heights Church.
He was a man with a giving heart, who met others by saying “Hey my friend.” Santiago loved helping his family, church and neighbors. His favorite hobbies were fishing and cooking. He loved to BBQ outside and spending time with friends and family. His testimony was his passion. He liked getting dressed for church, and never forgot his prayers over his entire family. Santiago was always a living testimony of God’s grace.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Chavez of Cleburne; son, Jimmy Chavez and wife, Tommie, of Houston; daughters, Diane DeLeon and husband, Albert, and Patricia Van Pelt and husband, Jason, all of Houston, Norma Chavez of Cleburne; Pastor Yvette Gann and husband, Pastor Wayne Gann and Andrea Pruitt and husband, Josh, all of Cleburne; sister, Pauline Reyes of Arcola, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
