Gwen Martin passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in Cleburne. She was born in Dallas, Texas on October 28, 1927, the daughter of Velma (Vincent) and Lynn Alvin Chowning.
Gwen married the love of her life, W.A. Martin on June 23, 1950 in Crandall. They were married for 66 years before his passing.
Gwen loved to share the Gospel with others and taught children in Bible class for over 54 years. After W.A. could no longer write the bulletin, Gwen continued publishing the weekly newsletter/bulletin for the Church of Christ in Scurry, and distributed it all over North Central Texas. Anywhere she went she would talk about Jesus and give out a bulletin.
Gwen worked as High school Secretary for Crandall ISD for 29 years. After her retirement Gwen volunteered at Coleman Elementary in Cleburne helping the teachers and especially Lisa preparing their classrooms and teaching materials.
She loved flowers and gardening.
She loved her family and found great joy in helping them in any way she could. She was very proud of her two children, four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; husband W.A. Martin; and brother, Furman Chowning.
She is survived by her son, Walter Martin and wife Sherry; daughter, Lisa Lehrmann and husband, Mike, all of Cleburne; grandchildren, Sara Hejl and husband, Luke, Rachel Price and husband, George, Brandon Lehrmann and wife, Mary, and Lindsey Adams and husband, Tyler; great grandchildren, Cooper, Haley, Beau, Juliet, Cora, Layla, Sylvie, Gemma, and Shepherd.
