Funeral services for Monroe Wallis, 84, of Godley, Texas will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church in Cleburne, Texas. Burial will follow in Godley Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Monroe took his last trip on January 26, 2022, but not in the jump-seat of a military aircraft. This time he went first-class, escorted on angel’s wings! He was born on October 15, 1937 in Cleburne, to H. T. and Bliss Wallis. Growing up in Godley, Monroe graduated from Godley High School and then attended Tarleton State University and Texas Christian University.
Monroe worked for General Dynamics in Nondestructive Testing, Texas Industrial X-Ray, and LTV before joining the 136th Texas Air National Guard.
After basic training, he worked as aerospace ground equipment mechanic as well as an aircraft mechanic. Later, he was promoted to fabrication Superintendent, where he supervised the NDT and Laboratory, Machine Shop, Welding Shop, Corrosion and Paint Shop, Structural Metal Shop, and Survival Equipment Shop.
Monroe was involved in Operation Creek Party for 10 years, made four rotations to Panama and Central America, and served as B Flight Chief during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
His last promotion was to Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) “Maintenance Control Superintendent.” After serving his country for 38 years, Monroe retired in 1991.
Then, travel became his passion! He enjoyed RV’ing and met so many wonderful friends. He loved people, and he always had a story…or two…or three.
The most important thing in his life was his love for God. Monroe served as deacon in the Godley Assembly of God Church for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his dear parents, H.T. and Bliss Wallis; sister, Annette Booth; and niece, Luann Parks.
Monroe is survived by Rita, his wife of 50 years, 7 months and his son, Monty.
He was blessed with a wonderful life, many memories, and great friends; but more importantly, he was thankful for God’s protection and His many blessings.
