Condolence: Kim and I were best buds from the time we could both waddle across the floor as babies. We lived in the same neighborhood, in Cleburne, until my dad moved away looking for work. But, I would always let Kim know when we were planning a trip back to visit family, and we would spend the entire time together, running around town, drinking malts at the Texan and fishing at McAnear Creek. We never caught anything, but that wasn’t the point. All we cared about was that we were fishing.

We spent a lot of time at Grandpa Strayer’s farm, snitching pecans from the giant tree next to his house or getting sick on berries and plums from his garden. I’m not sure if my parents even know where we were most of the time, other than knowing we were together somewhere and would be back before dark.

I can still remember when Kim introduced me to Karan. He met her during the time he spent around Georgia and, to this day, I think she was the best thing that ever happened to him. What a beautiful example of a life-long love story they have been. Thank you Karen for being his soulmate and for naming your firstborn Tony. What an honor.

I know I will see Kim again once I’m gone from this world so, even though my heart is broken to hear of his passing, I am also overjoyed to know that he is now in the arms of our loving Savior. I just hope Jesus enjoys discussions about religion because He will definitely get an earful from Kim. And if there is a McAnear Creek in heaven, I think Kim must be sitting on it’s banks right now, catching the biggest fish he ever saw. Hey Kim, save some of those fish for me.

Love you cousin,
Tony

Condolence: remember so much about my childhood but what I remember most is when dad would load us all up in the car and drive almost 6 hours from home to Cleburne where our extended families lived. I couldn’t wait to be on the doorstep of my favorite cousins, Marsha, Kim, Tina and Guy Strayer. The first 3 of us at almost the same age. We were never bored. There was always something to get into.
Kim and Tony, my brother, were Inseparable. I watched them joke, laugh, adventure. They both loved chocolate milk! They could both drink a quart in one sitting!
I remember them eating mashed potato sandwiches together of all things… They were never troublemakers because they were both raised by very strong parents… Kim always had a smile on his face and was always so happy.
He could make a good day out of a bad day. We grew up so fast and Tony was able to stay in touch with Kim and visit him sometimes but time and miles and life gets in the way. Kim married and became a deacon in the church and had a beautiful life and happy life and I wish that miles were shorter between family because I would love to have seen him again… You are loved Kim and you will be missed and I pray that angels are all around your family to comfort them and the good Lord stays with them in their time of need…

Condolence: I’m simply going to give snap shots that stand out to me concerning life as Kim’s little brother (not necessarily in chronological order):
-Going fishing for large mouth bass in McAnear Creek, he had this one big bass that kept eluding him that he called “jingles” because he kept snapping Kim’s line…through persistence Kim finally won the contest and he had jingles mounted on the wall with a lure still hanging out of his mouth.
-Empty lot tackle football with a huge bunch of guys, they called Kim “antelope” because he could really move when he got that ball. Kim won the “Punt, Pass, & Kick contest several years in a row as a youth.
-It snowed in Texas one year during school time, roads were very icy and slick, we just knew school would be called off. He and I took a little sled we had (yes a sled in Texas, don’t ask) and he was pulling me in the street for several blocks. We got close to Fulton Junior High (where I was attending at the time) and we saw lights on in some of the classrooms and kids walking around…did Kim turn the sled around and head the other way to continue our day of fun, nope, his integrity wouldn’t let him, he said, “we’ll just hide the sled in these bushes and go on to school and pick the sled up after school” which is exactly what we did.
-Showing me Christ as far back as I can remember, always showing me lovingkindness, he led me to the Lord in my pre-teen years and we attended Field Street Baptist Church together until I went to live with our father in another town for my high school years.
-Family reunions at Bruch Spruce Ranch every year (he and Karen started that tradition over 30 years ago), we would get drunk on chocolate milk and slay fish every day we were there.
-Long talks on the phone, laughing and cutting up, Kim was king of being goofy, I’m going to miss his goofiness.
-Kim was the ideal, fairytale brother that always stuck up for me, never said an evil word, and stayed true to God. Until we meet again, I love you big brother.

Condolence: Kim has always been one of my "spiritual heroes" because of the genuineness of His faith. Kim strikes me as living proof of the profound change that occurs in any person who decides to follow Jesus. We become alive as we never were before with a purpose. We know who we are, why we are here, and where we are going. Thank you Lord for saving Kim, and thank you Kim for living out that changed life.
