I would like to express my condolences to the Davis family, and to all those who knew and loved Michael. Michael was, without a doubt, one of the brightest, and most gifted graduate students that I have ever had the privilege of teaching. In truth, I learned far more from Michael than he ever learned from time spent with me. His research paper on symbolism in the music of Arnold Schoenberg, is one of the most comprehensive, and impressive, pieces of scholarship on the subject that I've encountered, period. Some people are smart--Michael Davis was brilliant. But more than any of that, Michael was a very special man. He was loved,and he will be missed. Jack Delaney Meadows School of the Arts at SMU
