Wagu and Sam Adams

Traveling with JT for work one week, we decided to grab a good steak. It had been a long week, challenging for both JT and I as we started on a new team in a new role. We leaned on one another that week quite a bit to come to a solution and report out that ultimately changed the way that business operated.

Towards the end of the week we needed a good meal. We found, what we thought, was a basic steak house, walking distance from the hotel. We decided to walk over. JT in his shorts, white sneakers, and polo shirt. Me in boots, jeans, a T-shirt and ball cap we strut into the steak house. Upon entering we realize we are severly underdressed! Who knew that people got that fancy for a steak on a Wednesday night?!?! Now questioning if they would even seat us, JT and I walk to the hostes to provide our names and hopefully not get thrown out!

To our surprise they took our names, we received some funny, if not possibly judgemental looks, but both brushed them off in anticipation for a great steak!

When seated we yet again realized we might have underestimated the overall restaurant. Al-acarte meant expensive, and when they brought uncooked steaks out on a cuttng board for us to pick what we wanted, we really knew we had hit the big times!

JT having never had a wagu steak, and receiving some encouragment from me, decided to indulge. He ordered his $100 20oz steak and a Sam Adams Boston Lager, his beer of choice when available. We shared stories of hunting, fishing, growing up in different times, had 2-3 beers a piece and left that restaurant with full belly's fit for kings.

Everytime we talked about travel, steaks or eating out, we always referenced that restaurant. Turning it into somewhat of a running joke with our new teammates. The time JT and Danny spent a little more than per diem allowed, came in slightly under dressed, but left as great friends.

That was one of my favorite memories with JT. I have several others as we worked very closely together from 2019 to 2021. He taught me more about myself, the plant, "getting things done" and a host of other great life long lessons.

I look forward to seeing my buddy again, until then, keep the beer cold and save a wagu steak for me. I will join you on those golden streets one day.
